Inspired by modern Brutalist architecture and also the need for fire-wise construction, this Accessory Dwelling Unit is a practical composition of form and function.
With a max of 800 square feet of living space, and a 16’ height limit per the Fairfax code, the space is made generous by in sinking into the ground 36”. Not only does this provide a voluminous room for a sleeping loft, but also creates a subversive experience in the landscape with views to the San Anselmo Creek.
Separating the garage/workshop and ADU is a covered entry courtyard, perfect for alfresco dining.
